Michael Eugene Archer, professionally known as D’Angelo, was a highly influential American R&B and neo-soul artist born on February 11, 1974, in Richmond, Virginia. Renowned for his smooth vocals, innovative sound, and soulful style, D’Angelo played a major role in shaping the neo-soul movement of the 1990s and 2000s.

Recognized as one of the most important voices in modern R&B, Billboard celebrated him as one of the greatest R&B artists of all time, while Rolling Stone ranked him No. 75 on its list of the 200 Greatest Singers in History.

Throughout his career, D’Angelo collaborated with groups such as the Soulquarians and The Soultronics, contributing to genre-defining projects that influenced a generation of musicians. His signature sound blended elements of R&B, soul, funk, and electronic music, creating a timeless and authentic vibe.






D’Angelo passed away on October 14, 2025, in New York City, at the age of 51. He is survived by his children Imani Archer, Michael Archer, and Morocco Archer, leaving behind a lasting musical legacy that continues to inspire artists around the world.
